Title: Relevance of facilities management in hospitality management education
Abstract: The purpose of this exploratory study is to assess the relevance of Facilities Management as a course with in hospitality management higher education programme. The paper outlines the importance of assessing the quality of graduates to meet the needs of the industry, the right mix of curriculum and the curricular content that would prepare the students to be comp etent as they enter the workforce. The paper explores, among the specialised units in hospitality management, the role of facilities m anagement in the hospitality industry and how the students perceive it to be relevant in their career. The study reveals t hat facilities management is an important course in hospitality management which needs to be covered in depth as it gives the graduates a competitive edge as future hotel managers.
